Continental Service of Communion
This structure exists at the continental level to drive the objectives of CHARIS at the continental level. Among others, one representative from each national service of communion forms part of this team. Charis Structure
National Service of Communion
This is an overarching body mandated to guide and direct the activities of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Botswana to build and strengthen the wide, diverse family of the charismatic renewal.
According to article 16 of CHARIS Statues, the general composition of the NSC should consist of representatives from realities and expressions of the current of grace born from the Catholic charismatic renewal. Nonetheless, the current NSC consists of representatives from prayer groups, as it is the only existing reality in Botswana.
The NSC comprises of the Diocesan Spiritual Directors appointed by the Bishops, together with five representatives from each diocese. By virtue of position, the Diocesan Coordinator and the Diocesan Secretary form part of the 5 representatives from each diocese. The Diocesan Spiritual directors appoint the remaining 3 representatives in consultation with the National Coordinator. The National Coordinator forms part of the NSC and shall be appointed by the Spiritual Directors in consultation with the NSC and shall be endorsed by the Bishops. Additionally, to foster and empower the youth, the National Youth Coordinator forms part of the NSC.
Diocesan Service of Communion
In each diocese of the Catholic Church in Botswana, where the Charismatic Renewal exists, a DSC is to be established to coordinate renewal activities. The DSC should consist of representatives from realities and expressions of the current of grace born from the catholic charismatic renewal. By virtue of position, the reality coordinator shall be part of the DSC. The diocesan youth coordinator shall also be part of the DSC. Additional members may be appointed by the Spiritual Director if need be. Currently, the DSCs are comprised of prayer group coordinators, as it is the only existing reality and a Diocesan spiritual director. Botswana has two DSCs, DSC North and DSC South, as commonly referenced by the Diocese of Francistown and the Diocese of Gaborone. Both DSCs account to NSC.
Local Service Team
Each reality (prayer group in the current scenario) is to have its own Local Service Team (LST). LST is a leadership structure at the parish level. This structure is required to work in close collaboration and cooperation with the parish priest and is responsible for nurturing the local prayer group/reality through weekly prayer meetings, retreats, workshops, and other spiritual means pertinent to personal encounters with Jesus Christ and the general spiritual maturity. The LST plans weekly prayer meetings and shall be responsible for all prayer group activities. The LST, through its coordinator, report to the DSC.
